Plan C Covid-19 Backup Wedding // Plymouth, MN // Associate Allie // Mariah & Didier

You guys!
This day was absolutely incredible. Despite Mariah calling me the day before her wedding, pretty much in tears because all of her plans of eloping in front of Nerstrand Falls in Nerstrand State Park were falling apart due to Covid restrictions and the BLM protests going on. She felt like giving up. I reassured her that no matter where they got married, their day would be beautiful and so meaningful because it was THEIR day. You don’t need a waterfall to make it special, although it is pretty dang cool.

She wiped away her tears and rolled up her sleeves and with the help of her maid of honor, they came across a cute little gazebo that Mariah, her family and Didier used to bike to often. It was the perfect spot. Since it was in a private neighborhood, she knew she would have to ask some sort of permission to use the property. She walked up to one of the houses surrounding the little park and knocked on the door. And guess who answered? Derek Stepan! The NHL hockey player! How freaking cool! She asked if he know who to ask for permission for the property and got pointed in the right direction. She later found out who he was since she’s not really into sports and had a good laugh once she recognized him on google.  A couple hours later, they were ready to go.

Didier’s family is all back in the Congo, with his sister in Kenya. But his Aunt & Uncle were able to able to make it out from Denver and their presence made the day all  much more special.  Their guest count was small and intimate, but it was perfect. They video chatted their ceremony with those who couldn’t be there, including Mariah’s sister who currently lives in China. Her sister and her husband made a beautiful video for Mariah & Didier of them singing the song “The Blessing” by Kari Jobe, which was played for Mariah & Didier at the reception. Such a touching moment and great way to keep those who are far away apart of your wedding day.

Covid-19 sure threw us all through a loop and is making weddings look different this year, but I’m all for it.
